Decor

Create a beautiful starry sky — indoors. Cut star and moon shapes from shimmery blue and silver card stock and use fishing wire or clear twine to hang them at every possible overhang throughout the party — chandeliers, ceiling fans, overhead beams — the, um, sky’s the limit!

You can also hang one or two modern, star-themed baby mobiles in a focal area of the party such as above the gift or beverage table. After the shower, the mobile can double as a gift for the mama-to-be.

Extra Touches

Chipboard moon and star shapes like the ones in this set are the perfect size for dressing up napkins and cocktail glasses. Create festive napkin rings by gluing a star or a moon to 1-1/2-inch-wide strips of card stock and wrapping the strips around rolled napkins, securing the ends with double-stick tape. To give cocktail glasses extra charm, thread hole-punched star pieces onto silver elastic ribbon and tie them to the base of the stemware.

Food

Here’s an easy way to bring a twinkle to your menu. Create tea sandwiches — fill them with watercress and goat cheese, curried chicken salad, or whatever you like — then shape them using star- and moon-shape cookie cutters. Arrange them on a tiered tray to give them a high-tea feel.

For dessert, try these roll-out star cookies. Melted butterscotch candies create the sunny yellow center.

Favor

Star-shape cookie cutters make fun favors for a “Twinkle, Twinkle” theme. Give each guest a pair in “mom and baby” sizes — one large and one small. Tie the stars together with sweet ribbon, and add a small favor tag that reads “A Star Is Born.”
