Rainbow baby maternity photo: The heartbreaking story

Jess Mahoney’s beautiful maternity shoot Picture: JoAnn Marrerro from Labor to Love photography.

In August of this year, Jess and Kevin Mahoney from Connecticut in the US approached photographer JoAnn Marrero with a special request.

Kevin explained that four years earlier when they were expecting with their first child Corbin, they did not receive any photos from their maternity shoot.

Now, Jess was expecting again after struggling to conceive and enduring six devastating miscarriages. The couple asked JoAnn to document the pregnancy and finally give Jess the maternity photos she had always dreamed of.

Inspired by a rainbow

“Jess wanted something rainbow-inspired because of the many fertility struggles she and Kevin had encountered, and so I knew I had to do something extra special for her family,” JoAnn told Kidspot.

A ‘rainbow baby’ is any child born after a pregnancy or infant loss. A rainbow is seen to represent the hope and light at the end of the storm of grief.

“My vision for part of their session was to create our own rainbow with colourful smoke bombs.”

JoAnn and her mentor Mary of Pebbles and Polka dots came together and planned the amazing shoot.  On the day everything came together to create this amazing and vibrant image.

“Through our rainbow haze, Jess stood with composure and her pregnancy glow came shining through like the sun. A whole lot of laughter made the moment even more vibrant and brilliant,” JoAnn said.

The image has definitely captured the hearts and minds of everyone who sees it and it is currently going viral all over social media.
