Labor is actually a very mechanical process. Your uterus is a big muscle that is trying to push your baby through the space inside your pelvis. So, as you get closer and closer to the time of birth, these contractions have to be stronger, and stronger, and stronger. And that’s why they’re so painful. It’s like having a giant muscle cramp over and over and over again. And that is what is gonna get your baby out.
