Sometimes having no plan means you are much more open to rambling and meandering along. And you are much more likely to slow things down and soak things up, noticing the details along the way and being in the very moment you are in. Nice!
With no agenda and a whole day (or weekend, even!) the stresses or strains of your everyday life are much more easily shrugged off. You can just adventure along, chat to your travel buddies, admire the view and stop worrying about the map or getting anywhere at any particular time.
You can pull over where you like, head in any direction you choose, break for as long as you want. It’s all up to you.
Slow trips like this are the perfect time to look for lizards under rocks, notice birds you’ve never seen, listen to crickets, dip your toes in a creek, lie under a tree, hunt for cicadas, dig your feet under warm sand, watch fish beneath the surface, sip cold drinks with your legs dangling, breathe the day in deeply.
That’s what slow, unplanned, meandering adventures are all about and why sometimes it’s better to not have an itinerary at all.
