Betta than Nutella choc spread
Paediatric nutritionist and mum of two Mandy Sacher shares her delicious recipe for Betta Than Nutella, a healthy chocolate spread alternative that your kids will love making and eating.
This moreish alternative to sugar-packed chocolate spreads can be used on your favourite bread, crackers or in muffin recipes either as a filling or as icing or eat straight up – you could also try it as a dipper with fruit or veggie sticks.

ingredients
-
1/4
cup carob powder -
1/4
cup raw cacao powder -
1/2
cup honey -
1/4
cup tahini -
1
tbs coconut oil -
2
tbs filtered water
(as desired)
method
- Place all ingredients in a medium sized bowl, and using a hand-held processor, process until a smooth consistency is reached. If it is too thick add a tbsp. of water and keep adding until desired consistency is reached.
- The spread can be stored for up to 2-3 weeks in the fridge and also freezes well.
notes
- This recipe was created by Mandy Sacher, Wholesome Child.
- You can also replace the tahini with other school-friendly seeds such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
- If your school allows nuts, then you can use ground roasted hazelnuts for a delicious nutty choc spread.
- If your children are used to sweet chocolate spreads you can increase the sweetness by adding more maple syrup and over time reduce the amount of sweetness used.
- Substitute maple syrup or rice syrup for honey if desired.
